Yep it works without the crack now. I simply went into my Kane and Lynch folder and deleted the exe and the steam_api.dll files. Right clicked the game in my steam menu hit properties, clicked the local files tab, and clicked verify integrity of game cache. It redownloaded the proper files and now I can run the game without a crack, and multiplayer woks.

In my case, the issue was sorted (and the game now plays flawlessly) by disabling any additional sound devices under Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound. I had 3 other devices listed in the Playback tab, and disabled all but:

wich had a green tick next to it as it was my current device. This solved any crash at launch, and my game has been running flawlessly.

Problem #7: Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days crashes to desktop ( CTD ) with no error message

Possible Solutions:

This problem can be caused by several different things. Here’s a list of the most common culprits associated with these crashes:

•Make sure the DVD-ROM is clean (check for both scratches and smudges on the reading surface of the DVD).
•Make sure the game has been installed properly.
•Make sure DirectX 9.0c has been installed properly.
•Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and that they are DirectX 9.0c -compatible.
•Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card and that they are DirectX 9.0c -compatible.
•Make sure Virtual Memory is enabled on your system.
•Run Disk Defragmenter.

Despite its close beta status, World of Tanks is quickly gaining  popularity mostly due to its unique tank-centric combat that strikes a near perfect balance between complexity and accessibility. Also helping with its recognition is the developers’ committment to reaching out to the lesser known sites, such as GameBrood, to help enlighten fans as well as curious gamers about what all the fuss is about with World of Tanks. As for this Q&A session, I was able to get in contact with none other than the Lead Game Designer himself, Sergey Burkatovsky.

Before I move on to the actual interview, I would like to start this article by asking you to share a few tips and tricks on how to be an elite tank commander by answering the following questions:

1. Do you have any advice you want to share with players who complain about how overpowered the artillery tanks are? (I’ve seen a Sturmpanzer 38(t) Grille take down 5 tanks once! 3 from close range too! That player is a beast!)

To survive under SPG fire, you have to make more maneuvers and improve your teamwork skills. If your light tanks and SPGs let the enemy artillery engage your teammates, then some links in your team need to be fixed. But most important, move as much as you can, because a tank standing still is a dead tank.

2. What is the key to being a great scout? Is there a specific tank that is an absolute must-buy for a dedicated scout?

A golden rule for a scout is staying alive. There’s no point rushing to the center of the enemy base and getting battered to death. What you need to do is to stay alive as long as you can and keep spotting enemy vehicles for your artillery, heavy tanks, and tank destroyers that can shoot them from long distances.

When we held our first tourney among game developers, our team took the first place mainly because we had the most robust and long-living scout.

The tank that you want to have is the German VK1602 Leopards. The Soviet A-20 is also very good, as are the Panzer III Panzer IIIA, and BT-7.

3. What tips can you give to light and medium tank players who happen to be unfortunate enough to go head-to-head with a heavy tank?

If this heavyweight we are talking about is the last tank that the enemy team has got, try shooting at its tracks. If you have a gun of 76 mm or more, send cumulative or high-explosive shells to its gun.

As a rule, a heavy tank is usually accompanied by a group of smaller vehicles that are much better targets for a driver of a medium or a light tank. So if you encounter a heavyweight, avoid a direct fight with it and attack its escort first.

If there’s indeed only one heavy tank left on its own, and it has driven far from its base, you can go round it and arrange a cooperative base capture knowing that the heavy won’t have time to get back.

4. What are the best ways to earn a lot of credits and experience points?

Play better! Still, jokes aside. First, we employed a premium account feature that helps players earn credits and experience points 1.5 times faster. Second, you can upgrade the tank you like playing most to Elite Tank by unlocking all elements in its development section. Thus, all the experience you earn with this tank can be converted into free experience that you can use for unlocking any elements and tanks you want.

Now on to the interview proper!

1. How long has World of Tanks been in Close Beta and how much has changed since its first beta phase?

We started the closed beta for World of Tanks on 8 June, and from that time we’ve been observing very positive dynamics in the number of people playing World of Tanks. We have about 1500 people registering for the closed beta every day, which is impressive. At the beginning of the closed beta, we gave players two tech trees (for Germany and the Soviet Union). Further on we will include several features like the American tech tree with 22 vehicles available, squad fights where you can cooperate with your friends in small groups (2 to 3 people). All these features will be included before the Open Beta stage.

2. What is the current reception among World of Tanks CB players?

The most common feedback is “very addictive”. We already have players spending up to 15 hours per day, and that says a lot. In fact, we had some 140 “hidden” testers from all over the world in the Russian CBT. At the end of the closed beta in Russia, we arranged a poll asking the players whether they would keep on playing in Western closed beta or not. The result was whopping 80 to 1. Knowing that, we can be sure that we are going in the right direction.

3. Are there any plans on rewarding your loyal fan-base with gift items or maybe a special tank with the letters “CB” painted on it once the open beta rolls out? XD

We do have plans on rewarding our most devoted and active testers. This may be a special tank model that no one other will have (Hint! It may be a hybrid German tank that was produced in just one copy and had a non-rotating turret, which will rotate in the game though), or some other bonuses. We’re still thinking on rewards, and we guarantee they will be refined.

4. Currently, there is only one game mode available for the CB, which is a Team Deathmatch type of mode, and just recently you have announced a Clan Wars Mode. Do you have plans on implementing other PvP match types such as free for all or an escort the V.I.P. type of mission?

As I mentioned before, we are planning to include squad fights, where you will join a random battle together with your teammates. There will also be Historic Campaigns with epic WWII battles reconstructed on virtual battlefields using exactly the models that were used in real battles. Think of Operation Goodwood as an example.

5. In my review of WoT, I’ve mentioned that the game has a steep learning curve due to me not knowing how to use the tanks properly. So once WoT goes Open Beta, what measures will be implemented to help new players get in tune with its unique gameplay?

Well, the first thing we’ll do is roll out a full game guide available in both PDF and HTML format and divided into several sections. Then, we’ve already launched the series of videos describing gameplay features for different types of vehicles that are also pretty educative and will help a novice choose the type that suites them best right from the start.

6. Given the growing popularity of WoT, are there plans on expanding its servers to cover different territories such as Asia?

We already have players from Asia and the Middle East, not mentioning the ones from Australia or South America who play World of Tanks despite the fact that ping numbers out there are higher than in Europe. So installing the servers in Europe and North America is just the beginning. We are planning to cover the territory of all the regions where the game gains popularity.

7. Regarding the much anticipated USA tank tree, German tanks seem to be more about armor and power while Russian tanks tend to focus more on speed and mobility, how will the US tanks differ from the two other nations? Will it be a balance of both?

This will mainly depend on a type of tank you choose, but the American tanks will be more of a balance of both. On the one hand, their ride will be smoother than of the Soviet tanks and will have less impact on scattering while shooting on the go. On the other hand, they will be less accurate and far-ranging that the German tanks. There will also be one-of-a-kind models such as the devastating M36 tank destroyer with a rotating turret.

8. It was mentioned in a previous interview that you aim to provide a lot of micro-updates such as new tanks and maps. Will these updates also include the prototype tank models that were never used during World War II?

If you look at the German and the Soviet tech trees, you will notice that they abound with prototypes that never went into massive production. These are VK3002 (DB) and the Porsche’s VK 4502 for Germany, and S-51 with Object 220 for the Soviet Union. Later on we will include even more prototypes, such as the German E-series with the Lion tank atop, and the Soviet Object 704 and URALMASH-1 tank destroyers.

9. As for your future titles, can your fans expect a World of Planes or maybe even a World of Boats?

We were thinking on World of BelAZ where you would have to work in a quarry truck and build your industrial empire in the main “global confrontation” mode. There would also be racing and demolition derby modes with multiton four-wheel giants smashing each other in the center of an abandoned quarry. But it never grew into something bigger than an April Fool joke.

10. Lastly, are there plans on releasing more of those hilarious teasers of World of Tanks? Possibly one that contains references to a certain RTS set in space? ;p

We had some plans on 2D fighting with tanks making somersaults, casting fireballs and planting fatality kicks, but no more teasing — it’s all about World of Tanks now!

- It will be decided through 3 StarCraft II Open Tournaments. The players are assigned points for their accomplishments in these leagues. (Points will be revealed after all three tournaments are complete)
- The format will be single elimination. (Bo3 for Ro64~Ro8, Bo5 semi, Bo7 finals)
- The prize pool for each tournament will be about 200,000,000 won (app. 170,000 USD)
- Default speed will be ‘Very Fast’ (guessing faster)

- Up to the semifinals, Blizzard’s official 1v1 maps will be used. Both players pick 2 maps they want excluded from the pool, then the maps are randomly chosen for each set.

- It will be played at a place designated by GomTV in Seoul.
- Players must arrive on time.

Out-of-Game Regulations

- Every player must arrive at the stadium 15 minutes prior to the game.
- Every player gets 15 minutes to set up.
- Every player can use their own equipments.
- Equipments are Keyboard, Mouse, Mouse pad, Ear set, Mouse driver.
- Every player must use the PC and LCD wide screen monitor provided by GomTV.
- Every player must use a ear set. Every player must wear a head set provided by GomTV over the ear set.

Game Stoppage and Regame

- If an emergency occurs, the game is first paused.
- If a player thinks that the game must be paused, he will press the emergency button in the booth.
- The observer will pause the game if it goes off.
- The player can request a pause under these conditions.
1. Equipment failure.
2. An in-game bug that affects the game.
3. When you can hear the sound outside of the booth due to sound issues.
4. If the player finds an issue that may affect the game.
- If a game is paused due to the above reasons, the game will be resumed after the issue is resolved at the discretion of the referee.
- A new game will be played under these conditions.
1. Power/Network issues.
2. Computer error.
3. An unintentional or unknown bug in the game.
4. When a member of the audience enters the booth or does something that makes the game unable to be continued.
5. When it is no longer possible to determine the winner and the loser.
6. If a game stops due to an emergency.
7. If the referee decides that the game was over, even under the above conditions, the game will be considered as if it ended and the winner will be decided.
- Even if the observers drop, if the players are still in, the game will be continued.
- A regame will be pushed to the last game of that day so that the players can take time to refocus.
- GomTV and the referee can make decisions according to the situation.

Disqualification

You are disqualified if:
- A friend notification appears during the game.
- You received a message from a person during the game.
- You chat (besides surrenderring).
- You act violently towards the players or the audience.
- You fail to arrive 15 minutes before the game.
- You take longer than 15 minutes to set up.
- You use a known bug.

Aside from a number of tweaks and improvements on the overall gameplay of Land of Chaos online, quoted below from the LOCO website are the rest of the changes that are in store for OB players.:

• More languages: The Open Beta will be available in the languages English, French and German. Other languages will follow soon.

• AI Mode: Train you skills in the new “AI mode” where NPC heroes are your hostiles. You can play this mode till you have reached the 3rd grade.

• Optimized Tutorial: Much easier “get in the Tutorial”. This is a good advice from us. Play yourself through the tutorial and get cool rewards.

• Mission Boards: We have prepared some really cool Mission Boards for you to make your stay more challenging.

• Hero Cards: Everyone gets three permanent hero cards and three 30 day hero cards. Think wisely which heroes you want to hire.

• Better matchmaking system: Finding the right competitors and invite friends to a match is much easier than before.

• Balancing: Nearly each hero and all skills are rebalanced.

Contact Blizzard Tech Support and inquire about the product key you were given. If it’s not linked to your region then request for a different key.

Problem #6: Can’t play Single Player Campaign of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty

There appears to be one temporary fix that will at least let you play the game. What you have to do is create a new user account (make sure it has administrator privileges!) and play Starcraft 2 from that account.

So there may be 2 issues causing this problem. Either you have left over info in your registry from the beta, that is causing the game to think there is only a multiplayer option, or your Windows is not letting the game update the registry wiht the data that it needs.

If you were in the Beta, please follow these steps:

Deleting the Battle.net registry folders:

- Click on Start then choose Run.

- In the Run box, type the word “regedit” (without the quotes) and press OK. This will launch the Registry Editor.

- Click on the + icon beside the “HKey_Current_User” folder.

- Under that, click on the + icon beside the “Software” folder.

- In the folders that appear under “Software”, then open “Blizzard Entertainment”, and Select the “Battle.net” folder and delete it.

- Click on the – icon beside the “HKey_Current_User” folder to collapse it as well.

- Now that both “Battle.net” folders are gone, close the Registry Editor, restart the game, and single player again.

Those of you with the missing Remember Account check box fall in to the latter. For what ever reason you do not have the rights to write to the registry. You can try a few things to correct this:

1) Right the game shortcut and select Run as Admin (Windows Vista and 7)

- Make sure that your Windows user account has Admin rights

2) Disable and then re-enable UAC (Windows Vista and 7)

- Click Start, then Control Panel

- Click on User Accounts, then User Accounts again

- Click on Turn User Account Control on or off

- Un-check the button for User User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK

- Restart your computer

- Follow the instructions above and check the box for User User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK

- Restart your computer and try the game again

3) Disable or temporarily uninstall any security or Anti Virus software that could be preventing the game from updating the registry

- Remember to reinstall or use any type of security/AV software

Problem #7: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty constantly crashes / freezes / keeps crashing / freezing during gameplay or after start-up

I finally got the game up and running smoothly. Outside of a few glitches here and there with framerate or pixelation, the game runs as it should have run. I’m not quite sure WHAT, specifically, I did to fix my problem, but I figured I’d post the run-a-around for those who are still frustrated.

1. Update everything. Windows stuff, drivers, game patches… everything.

2. Registry clean-up. Lots of free programs out there to clean up your registry.

3. Resolution match-up. Make sure the game resolution matches your native resolution. I had this same problem with Fallout 3. Simple fix.

4. Windows Vista/7: Run as Admin. After all the work with defrag and clean up and downloads, Run as Administer made the game actually work. It didn’t the first time around, but after I finished the aforementioned steps, it worked.

Also, it helps to have all background programs turned off. No matter how small it may be, unless it’s critical to the function/security of your machine, turn it off.

To all those having issues…try turning settings down to low, and work your way up from there. Ive noticed that took care of it completely (will probably just have to buy a new card to play all on high). dual core 3ghz/8800gt 512/xp32/4gb ram

I was able to play on mostly high till certain maps.

if you have a multi core processor start sc2 press ctrl alt delete go to SC2 process right click go down to Set affinity and uncheck some of the cores, that fixed my problem, and it even runs FASTER than it was before. Really hope this helps, I feel your pain.

WOO HOO!!! I THINK I SOLVED THE PROBLEM!!!!!! Ok guys, see if this works for you… Go into your nvidia control panel by simply right click on your desktop and selecting nvidia control panel. when you’re in make sure you are in advanced settings view. Now i’m not sure which on the things i changed that made it work, but here is what i did.

This is what i did. after experimening i rooted down the problem to vent being unable to write to ini file. a quick google on that and i got the anwser. MY USER FOLDER AND THEREFORE MY TEMP FOLDER WAS MARKED AS READ ONLY!

I changed it and now it workes no reinstall of the game or nothing.

If you are having issues downloading the game from our website, please first delete the file you’ve downloaded, and redownload the latest download manager from http://www.battle.net/ and try again. If that doesn’t help, please try the steps below:

Step 1)

Please open up Internet Explorer and make sure that “Work Offline” is not checked, and that Internet Explorer has normal access to the internet. Our downloader uses the default Windows settings, which Internet Explorer also uses.

You may also need to double check your proxy settings for Internet Explorer. This can be done by launching that browser, choosing “Tools” then “Internet Options”. From there, go to the “Connections” tab and click the “LAN Settings” button. Look for a checkbox labeled “Automatically detect settings.” If it is clear, check it. If it was checked, clear it. If you have a proxy set up and the downloader is not working, you may wish to remove it. After removing the proxy setting, you will need to download a new StarCraft 2 Beta downloader from http://www.battle.net/account/

Step 2)

You may need to verify you are using an Administrator account. To find out which user accounts are marked as Administrator accounts with Windows XP, please see the instructions below:

-Click Start > Control Panel and look for an icon called User Accounts.

-Double click this and it should bring up a list of users on your computer.

-Find the user account that matches your user name and have a look in the group column, it may say administrator, power user or user. This is what type of account you are logged on with. Make sure the one you are using is listed as an administrator.

In order to set the downloader as Administrator Mode with Windows Vista/7, please follow the steps below:

1. Right click on the Blizzard Downloader file.

2. Select “Run as Administrator”

Creating a new user account might also resolve the issue. For instructions on how to create a new user account, Microsoft’s site contains guides for each Operating System:

Step 3)

Sometimes power cycling your modem, router, and computer can help clear up these issues. Please power off the computer through the normal shut down process, and, leaving the computer off, find the power cord for your router and modem, and remove the power for about 60 seconds, making sure all the lights turn off. Once the lights on all your routers and modems have been off for about 1 minute, plug them back in and wait for the lights to stabilize. Once the lights are stable, turn the computer back on, delete the download manager, redownload it, and try again.

Step 4)

Next, you may have some security software loaded on the computer which may be blocking the application from connecting to the internet. Often times, simply disabling the security software may not allow the download manager to connect still. You will want to review your security software’s documentation to make sure that the download manager has proper access to the internet.

If you have ever had security software, but have since removed it, remnants of it may remain behind. You may wish to try running the Norton Removal Tool or the McAfee Removal Tool to make sure those two products remove properly. Their links are below:

Please keep in mind that the Blizzard Downloader uses port 3724. Other ports, like 6881-6999 may be used but they’re not required. If your firewall blocks port 3724 or you do not have a rule set up, you may want to make one so that your download goes a bit faster.

The game uses ports 1119 and 1120 TCP. Forwarding these ports is not required in most cases but if you have a special setup, you may want to set up those rules.

Problem #16: Compatibility modes will not work properly when trying to play Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Attempting to run StarCraft 2 on a compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3 from Windows 7, for example) will make it crash. Please run the game normally.

Certain screens make your hardware work pretty hard

Screens that are light on detail may make your system overheat if cooling is overall insufficient. This is because the game has nothing to do so it is primarily just working on drawing the screen very quickly. A temporary workaround is to go to your Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file and add these lines:

frameratecapglue=30

frameratecap=60

You may replace these numbers if you want to.

Problem #17: Encounter Black Screen when trying to run Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on a PC

There have been multiple reports of black screen issues being related to the use of a Quick Cam webcam.

In some cases exiting out of the software has resolved the issue but others have reported a need to uninstall the software for the camera in order to resolve the problem.

There are also reports where some security programs like Comodo firewall can cause the game to start and stay on a black screen.

Problem #18: How to play Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on another computer after already inputting the game key / product key in a different computer

Solution:

Log in to your battle.net account on the computer you wish to use and proceed to download Starcraft 2. As long as you use the battle.net account with the inputted product key, you can play Starcraft 2 on any computer.

Problem #19: Encounter blue screen of death / bsod when trying to run Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Possible Solution #1:

Changing the desktop resolution might fix the blue screen problem

Problem #20: Encounter long loading time when playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty / it takes too long to load a map, stutters too at the start of a match

Try changing your audio to stereo instead of the default option

Problem #23: Portraits, decals and achievements don’t show / appear when playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Possible Solution #1:

Run as administrator and reset your battle.net account

This issue might be due to limited permissions on your computer.

Please try creating a new Administrator account and login to Windows with that. Also, please delete the Windows Temporary files:

- Press the Windows and R key

- Type %temp% in the Open box and click OK

- Delete the contents of the displayed folder

Finally try disabling your security software prior to launching the game.

Please change the password at the battle.net website. Make sure you use the correct game client. EU game client for the EU StarCraft II Account or US/US.

Problem #25: Video card overheats / keeps overheating when running Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Go to Documents\Starcraft II\Variables.txt file and input the following:

Problem #26: Can’t play online or against the computer AI / encounter black screen error when trying to play online or against the AI

Possible Solution #1: (by Chrchlik from the Starcraft 2 forum)

SC2 multiplayer maps are stored in Application Data folder and not where you installed the game itself. If you dont have english version of Windows and in your path are any “exotic” letters, it will cause this bug (e.g. in czech the folder is called “Data aplikací” and the í causes trouble).

To get rid of this, use english version of Windows, or you can edit registers. I use Win XP, so I can only provide info for this system. Select “Run” from Start menu and type “regedit”. After that navigate your way into “This Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders” and there under “Common AppData” change the path to something more suitable (in my case Data aplikací -> Data aplikaci).

!!!BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS! If you run any other aplication other than S2 that uses access to this folder, it may mess things up.

Problem #27: How to force AA (antialiasing) when running Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty using an ATI video card

1: Make sure the game is running as administrator (Vista & Win 7 Users, Right click, run as Administrator) (XP users, your account needs to have Admin permissions on your computer)

This one seemed to fix most people’s problems earlier today.

2: Internet Explorer > Tools (You can also access this from the control panel)> Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings > Uncheck the Proxy tickbox at the bottom.

Some people were saying recent Viruses had changed their proxy settings which seemed to be effecting their connection. This was the provided soloution on the US forum.

3: Check firewall and Anti-virus settings, as they may be blocking internet access (Not really a problem for me, but some people do have more agressive FW and AV~ Best way to check if that is the cause is to disable them completely for a few minutes, then run the game. If it works, then there is your problem. )

Problem #31: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty crashes when opening the Starcraft 2 Launcher

For anyone else having the same problem:

My Documents > Starcraft II > Accounts > (Whatever the random account # is) > (Then another bunch of numbers > Replays > And just open up any ol’ replay y’like.

The patcher ran again (Although I had already been patched o.O), but this time, it didn’t just close on it’s own after patching. It let me click play, and now, hooray, I can run SC2 normally again via the launcher desktop icon.

Sony Online Entertainment has recently announced that Everquest II will include free-to-play servers under the name Everquest II Extended. Fans of F2P MMOs such as I can now participate in the “free adventures” Sony Online Entertainment has in store and finally experience what makes Everquest II the next best thing to World of Warcraft.

Although the pay-to-play servers will still be in place, Everquest II: Extended will also  feature a subscription scheme for players looking to get the most of out of the MMORPG. Fortunately, the developers have assured their fans that they are hard at work to getting Brave Arms at tip top shape for everyone to enjoy. It’s still in its Open Beta phase after all so I think all these glitches in a game that is still a work in progress are perfectly understandable.

Technical Issues (Errors, glitches, Connection Problems)

Players unable to play Brave Arms should first head over to the Brave Arms Wiki. A technical support page with a list of problems – Game engine not initialized, Create Device Failed, Connecting lasts longer than 60 seconds etc. – as well as their respective solutions are readily available for browsing. If the problem persists, the developers have advised to post on the Brave Arms forums regarding the issue and not on the Brave Arms Facebook Wall. The update doesn’t end here.

New Game Features

The developers have added more content to spice up the character creation. Aside from adding new cosmetic options, they have also improved on the first-person perspective with a number of graphical updates.  “Players will have a better first-person view of their characters outfits from the gloves they are wearing to the sleeves of their shirts”

Aside from a number of tweaks to the graphics, a tutorial page is readily accessible for new players still learning the ropes. Competitive players on the other hand can now keep tabs on their stats and also find out their ranking on the leaderboards.

Every first Friday of the month, players will be able to go toe-to-toe with the developers of Brave Arms. But a proper time still hasn’t been decided so head over to the Brave Arms Forums to vote on what time to own each other.
