Problem #5: Receive error message ” There is a temporary outage of the battle.net service. Please try again later ” when trying to log in to Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1: (by datth, Starcraft 2 customer service)
If you are currently receiving this message, please log into Battle.net (http://www.battle.net/account) and reset your account password using the reset option. After waiting for 30 minutes, log back into the game client.
Possible Solution #2:
Contact Blizzard Tech Support and inquire about the product key you were given. If it’s not linked to your region then request for a different key.
Problem #6: Can’t play Single Player Campaign of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1:
Turn off your anti-virus
Possible Solution #2:(by ernzoa from the battle.net forums)
There appears to be one temporary fix that will at least let you play the game. What you have to do is create a new user account (make sure it has administrator privileges!) and play Starcraft 2 from that account.
Possible Solution #3: (by AdamS, Starcraft 2 customer service)
So there may be 2 issues causing this problem. Either you have left over info in your registry from the beta, that is causing the game to think there is only a multiplayer option, or your Windows is not letting the game update the registry wiht the data that it needs.
If you were in the Beta, please follow these steps:
Deleting the Battle.net registry folders:
- Click on Start then choose Run.
- In the Run box, type the word “regedit” (without the quotes) and press OK. This will launch the Registry Editor.
- Click on the + icon beside the “HKey_Current_User” folder.
- Under that, click on the + icon beside the “Software” folder.
- In the folders that appear under “Software”, then open “Blizzard Entertainment”, and Select the “Battle.net” folder and delete it.
- Click on the – icon beside the “HKey_Current_User” folder to collapse it as well.
- Now that both “Battle.net” folders are gone, close the Registry Editor, restart the game, and single player again.
Those of you with the missing Remember Account check box fall in to the latter. For what ever reason you do not have the rights to write to the registry. You can try a few things to correct this:
1) Right the game shortcut and select Run as Admin (Windows Vista and 7)
- Make sure that your Windows user account has Admin rights
2) Disable and then re-enable UAC (Windows Vista and 7)
- Click Start, then Control Panel
- Click on User Accounts, then User Accounts again
- Click on Turn User Account Control on or off
- Un-check the button for User User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK
- Restart your computer
- Follow the instructions above and check the box for User User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK
- Restart your computer and try the game again
3) Disable or temporarily uninstall any security or Anti Virus software that could be preventing the game from updating the registry
- Remember to reinstall or use any type of security/AV software
Possible Solution #4:
Run the game in XP mode
Problem #7: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty constantly crashes / freezes / keeps crashing / freezing during gameplay or after start-up
Possible Solution #1: (by DarkDRGN from the battle.net forum)
I finally got the game up and running smoothly. Outside of a few glitches here and there with framerate or pixelation, the game runs as it should have run. I’m not quite sure WHAT, specifically, I did to fix my problem, but I figured I’d post the run-a-around for those who are still frustrated.
1. Update everything. Windows stuff, drivers, game patches… everything.
2. Registry clean-up. Lots of free programs out there to clean up your registry.
3. Resolution match-up. Make sure the game resolution matches your native resolution. I had this same problem with Fallout 3. Simple fix.
4. Windows Vista/7: Run as Admin. After all the work with defrag and clean up and downloads, Run as Administer made the game actually work. It didn’t the first time around, but after I finished the aforementioned steps, it worked.
Also, it helps to have all background programs turned off. No matter how small it may be, unless it’s critical to the function/security of your machine, turn it off.
Possible Solution #2: (by Seven from the battle.net forum)
To all those having issues…try turning settings down to low, and work your way up from there. Ive noticed that took care of it completely (will probably just have to buy a new card to play all on high). dual core 3ghz/8800gt 512/xp32/4gb ram
I was able to play on mostly high till certain maps.
Possible Solution #3: (by Capyoazz from the Starcraft 2 forum)
if you have a multi core processor start sc2 press ctrl alt delete go to SC2 process right click go down to Set affinity and uncheck some of the cores, that fixed my problem, and it even runs FASTER than it was before. Really hope this helps, I feel your pain.
Possible Solution #4:
Download and install an older version of your video card driver. Try experimenting with video card drivers that were released months ago or you can try the driver that came with your video card when you first bought it.
Possible Solution #5:
Update the BIOS for your motherboard
Possible Solution #6:
Underclock your GPU or CPU
Possible Solution #7:
Decrease the memory frequency of your video card until Starcraft 2 stops crashing
Problem #8: Starcraft 2: Wings of Libery is very slow due to low FPS ( Framerate ) / performance is low
Possible Solution #1:
Disable SLI and crossfire
Possible Solution #2:
Lower your shaders until you have a better framerate
Possible Solution #3:
Turn down your graphics settings
Problem #9: Encounter Graphics / Graphical issues and error during in-game cinematic cut-scenes / in-game movies don’t render properly
Possible Solution #1:
Update your video card
Possible Solution #2: (by HELLBOUNDMAN from the battle.net forum)

Problem #10: Keep getting disconnected from Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty servers while playing multiplayer matches
Possible Solution #1: (by Davidedl, Starcraft 2 customer service)
Make sure that the router firewall is allowing the ports that SCII uses.
Here’s a link that will help with that:
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT610N/StarCraft_II.htm
Possible Solution #2:
Power cycle your router
Possible Solution #3:
Change your battle.net password if you have initially used a trial account
Problem #11: Encounter message Please buy full version of Starcraft 2 when trying to play the single player campaign
Possible Solution #1: (by Volusba from the battle.net forum)
This is what i did. after experimening i rooted down the problem to vent being unable to write to ini file. a quick google on that and i got the anwser. MY USER FOLDER AND THEREFORE MY TEMP FOLDER WAS MARKED AS READ ONLY!
I changed it and now it workes no reinstall of the game or nothing.
I hope this works for u guys too, cheers =)
Problem #12: Encounter Black Screen when playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on a Mac
Possible Solution #1:
Reboot your computer
Problem #13: Experience low fps / performance when playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on a Mac
Possible Solution #1: (by Raj from the Starcraft 2 Mac forum)
I was able to get reasonable (30-60) FPS with mid-to-high settings by doing the following:
- Reinstalling Snow Leopard from the install DVD
- Installing the 10.6.3 combo update (**NOT** 10.6.4)
- Adding “shadows=0″ in the /Documents/Blizzard/Starcraft II/Variables.txt file
Problem #14: What video cards aren’t supported by Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Answer:
NVIDIA 7300GT, NVIDIA 7600GT, NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500, Intel GMA950, Intel x3100
Problem #15: Unable to download Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty from the website
Possible Solution #1: (by Martyt, Starcraft 2 customer service)
If you are having issues downloading the game from our website, please first delete the file you’ve downloaded, and redownload the latest download manager from http://www.battle.net/ and try again. If that doesn’t help, please try the steps below:
Step 1)
Please open up Internet Explorer and make sure that “Work Offline” is not checked, and that Internet Explorer has normal access to the internet. Our downloader uses the default Windows settings, which Internet Explorer also uses.
You may also need to double check your proxy settings for Internet Explorer. This can be done by launching that browser, choosing “Tools” then “Internet Options”. From there, go to the “Connections” tab and click the “LAN Settings” button. Look for a checkbox labeled “Automatically detect settings.” If it is clear, check it. If it was checked, clear it. If you have a proxy set up and the downloader is not working, you may wish to remove it. After removing the proxy setting, you will need to download a new StarCraft 2 Beta downloader from http://www.battle.net/account/
Step 2)
You may need to verify you are using an Administrator account. To find out which user accounts are marked as Administrator accounts with Windows XP, please see the instructions below:
-Click Start > Control Panel and look for an icon called User Accounts.
-Double click this and it should bring up a list of users on your computer.
-Find the user account that matches your user name and have a look in the group column, it may say administrator, power user or user. This is what type of account you are logged on with. Make sure the one you are using is listed as an administrator.
In order to set the downloader as Administrator Mode with Windows Vista/7, please follow the steps below:
1. Right click on the Blizzard Downloader file.
2. Select “Run as Administrator”
Creating a new user account might also resolve the issue. For instructions on how to create a new user account, Microsoft’s site contains guides for each Operating System:
Windows XP:
Windows Vista/7 – Please follow the instructions for setting up a new user account on a workgroup, not a domain:
Step 3)
Sometimes power cycling your modem, router, and computer can help clear up these issues. Please power off the computer through the normal shut down process, and, leaving the computer off, find the power cord for your router and modem, and remove the power for about 60 seconds, making sure all the lights turn off. Once the lights on all your routers and modems have been off for about 1 minute, plug them back in and wait for the lights to stabilize. Once the lights are stable, turn the computer back on, delete the download manager, redownload it, and try again.
Step 4)
Next, you may have some security software loaded on the computer which may be blocking the application from connecting to the internet. Often times, simply disabling the security software may not allow the download manager to connect still. You will want to review your security software’s documentation to make sure that the download manager has proper access to the internet.
If you have ever had security software, but have since removed it, remnants of it may remain behind. You may wish to try running the Norton Removal Tool or the McAfee Removal Tool to make sure those two products remove properly. Their links are below:
Norton Removal Tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
McAfee Removal Tool: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
Please keep in mind that the Blizzard Downloader uses port 3724. Other ports, like 6881-6999 may be used but they’re not required. If your firewall blocks port 3724 or you do not have a rule set up, you may want to make one so that your download goes a bit faster.
The game uses ports 1119 and 1120 TCP. Forwarding these ports is not required in most cases but if you have a special setup, you may want to set up those rules.
Problem #16: Compatibility modes will not work properly when trying to play Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1: (by Martyt, Starcraft 2 customer service)
Attempting to run StarCraft 2 on a compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3 from Windows 7, for example) will make it crash. Please run the game normally.
Certain screens make your hardware work pretty hard
Screens that are light on detail may make your system overheat if cooling is overall insufficient. This is because the game has nothing to do so it is primarily just working on drawing the screen very quickly. A temporary workaround is to go to your Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file and add these lines:
frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60
You may replace these numbers if you want to.
Problem #17: Encounter Black Screen when trying to run Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on a PC
Possible Solution #1: (by Martyt, Starcraft 2 customer service)
There have been multiple reports of black screen issues being related to the use of a Quick Cam webcam.
In some cases exiting out of the software has resolved the issue but others have reported a need to uninstall the software for the camera in order to resolve the problem.
There are also reports where some security programs like Comodo firewall can cause the game to start and stay on a black screen.
Problem #18: How to play Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on another computer after already inputting the game key / product key in a different computer
Solution:
Log in to your battle.net account on the computer you wish to use and proceed to download Starcraft 2. As long as you use the battle.net account with the inputted product key, you can play Starcraft 2 on any computer.
Problem #19: Encounter blue screen of death / bsod when trying to run Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1:
Changing the desktop resolution might fix the blue screen problem
Problem #20: Encounter long loading time when playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty / it takes too long to load a map, stutters too at the start of a match
Possible Solution #1:
Try changing your audio to stereo instead of the default option
Possible Solution #2:
Disable your anti-virus software
Problem #21: You don’t know how well your computer or laptop will run Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty/ You don’t know if your computer or laptop is powerful enough to run Starcraft 2
Solution:
Check out this useful article by Maximum PC. They’ve have tested SC2 on a number of different PC rigs and have posted their results, which you may find helpful.
Problem #22: Low performance / FPS (framerate) and loading time when running Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty on a PC with an ATI video card
Possible Solution #1:
Update your ATI video card to Catalyst 10.7a
Problem #23: Portraits, decals and achievements don’t show / appear when playing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1:
Run as administrator and reset your battle.net account
Possible Solution #2: (by Krinskal, Blizzard employee)
This issue might be due to limited permissions on your computer.
Please try creating a new Administrator account and login to Windows with that. Also, please delete the Windows Temporary files:
- Press the Windows and R key
- Type %temp% in the Open box and click OK
- Delete the contents of the displayed folder
Finally try disabling your security software prior to launching the game.
Possible Solution #3:
Disable programs that block certain IP ranges
Problem #24: Encounter error message “The Battle.net Account does not include an associated copy of Starcraft 2.” after registration of the Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty product key
Solution: (by Akalonth, Starcraft 2 customer support)
Please change the password at the battle.net website. Make sure you use the correct game client. EU game client for the EU StarCraft II Account or US/US.
Problem #25: Video card overheats / keeps overheating when running Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1:
Go to Documents\Starcraft II\Variables.txt file and input the following:
frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60
Problem #26: Can’t play online or against the computer AI / encounter black screen error when trying to play online or against the AI
Possible Solution #1: (by Chrchlik from the Starcraft 2 forum)
SC2 multiplayer maps are stored in Application Data folder and not where you installed the game itself. If you dont have english version of Windows and in your path are any “exotic” letters, it will cause this bug (e.g. in czech the folder is called “Data aplikací” and the í causes trouble).
To get rid of this, use english version of Windows, or you can edit registers. I use Win XP, so I can only provide info for this system. Select “Run” from Start menu and type “regedit”. After that navigate your way into “This Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders” and there under “Common AppData” change the path to something more suitable (in my case Data aplikací -> Data aplikaci).
!!!BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS! If you run any other aplication other than S2 that uses access to this folder, it may mess things up.
Problem #27: How to force AA (antialiasing) when running Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty using an ATI video card
Solution:
Download the ATI hotfix: ATI Catalyst 10.7a Beta Driver
Problem #28: Encounter error message e_gfxErrorOutofMemory when running Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty
Possible Solution #1:
Download the latest DirectX and video card drivers
Possible Solution #2:
Close all unnecessary background applications
Problem #29: Can’t download nor patch Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty for the Mac
Possible Solution #1: (by Krinskal, Starcraft 2 customer service)
Repair permissions on your hard drive and ensure Macintosh HD\Users\Shared is Read&Write for all of the listed accounts
Problem #30: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty crashes to desktop ( CTD ) / exits to desktop after loading or during startup
Possible Solution #1:
Disconnect from the internet while running Starcraft 2
Possible Solution #2: (by LMShinigami from the Starcraft 2 forum)
1: Make sure the game is running as administrator (Vista & Win 7 Users, Right click, run as Administrator) (XP users, your account needs to have Admin permissions on your computer)
This one seemed to fix most people’s problems earlier today.
2: Internet Explorer > Tools (You can also access this from the control panel)> Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings > Uncheck the Proxy tickbox at the bottom.
Some people were saying recent Viruses had changed their proxy settings which seemed to be effecting their connection. This was the provided soloution on the US forum.
3: Check firewall and Anti-virus settings, as they may be blocking internet access (Not really a problem for me, but some people do have more agressive FW and AV~ Best way to check if that is the cause is to disable them completely for a few minutes, then run the game. If it works, then there is your problem. )
Problem #31: Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty crashes when opening the Starcraft 2 Launcher
Possible Solution #1: (by LMShinigami from the Stracraft 2 forum)
For anyone else having the same problem:
My Documents > Starcraft II > Accounts > (Whatever the random account # is) > (Then another bunch of numbers > Replays > And just open up any ol’ replay y’like.
The patcher ran again (Although I had already been patched o.O), but this time, it didn’t just close on it’s own after patching. It let me click play, and now, hooray, I can run SC2 normally again via the launcher desktop icon.

There’s also the HIGHLY annoying battle.net error on registration where the game won’t recognise Starcraft 2 being active on your battle.net account. This drove me nuts yesterday for a couple of hours trying to find an answer. The solution:
Change your battle.net email and password (the changing of email worked for me, but others have reported changing the password works too).
Such a pain.. but well worth it

I’ve tried installing Starcraft 2 three times now, and my computer has frozen all three times (once at 48% and twice at 28%). My computer runs on Windows Vista, with the latest Service Pack installed, and meets all the minimum specs and all the recommended specs except for graphics card (only 256 mb). I’m pretty sure my HDD is formatted NTFS and not FAT32, but will check tonight. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.
July 28th, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Exactly why is “broadband connection” required? Are we supposed to be connected continuously even while playing single player games? Is it because we have to download massive size files for authentication purposes? This sounds a lot like a Steam game, which I don’t like since it greatly slows down the time I just want to put in the DVD and play my game…talk about an irritating delay before actually playing the game. Steam killed me with Half-life 2 in this regard, requiring I go back online to “update” as it said even though I finished the single player game from begining to end twice.

Ive tried multiple times to prevent the game from crashing, nothing has worked
my system specs are;
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
GTX 285
ASrock X58 extreme
4 gigs of corsair dominator [last stick was defective was 6]
i7 920
and corsair 750 watt psu
———————————–
my card is not overheating at all, ive even put everything as low as possible and it crashed at the same speed that it always does when it crashes my screen artifacts and instantly crashes right after giving me no choice but to force reset. Ive tried different video drivers and so on but still the same issue over and over. It never crashes in the menu but it will crash once i get in-game i cannot even pass the first campaign level without it crashing. I will be looking back at this actively so please someone give me something new to try or even better a actual fix D:
July 29th, 2010 at 5:38 am
Win XP
GTX 275
Intel Q9450
I have the exact same problem as Alex with the freezing. Fortunately I’ve been able to finish 15 missions or so but now it’s freezing more and more.
In any case, I can confirm that overheating is not what’s causing it. I’ve been keeping a very close check on both gpu and cpu temps and they’re well below the danger zone at all times.
I believe the freezing has something to do with Nvidias drivers (and SC2) as I have the same trouble with Empire: Total War and Napoleon: Total War, except that I could still play the latter by downgrading to some of the earliest available drivers. These are the only games that does this (to me).

I have problems running Starcraft 2. After it installs it goes to updating patch notes then loads to 70% then stops, goes back to windows and nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling and installing several times but same thing happens. Any suggestions, anyone?
July 29th, 2010 at 11:16 am
On a pretty new iMac within spec, the installer stops partway through and then freezes the machine hard. I opened in safe mode after having to use the power button and then restarted to clear the cache, and it helped, but still froze at 95% installed. Bummer. Possible solution: get my $ back!
July 29th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
After I installed SC2 from DVD, the game went to patch mode for over 5 hours. Finally I gave up and reinstalled the game, but the same problem happened again. I went to several SC2 forums and read that changing your battlenet password may help. I tried that and eventually got the patch to install and the game to run. Two impressions with this SC2 product launch. First, many customers cannot even get their game to start. You would think that if you buy the DVD and install the game, the damn thing should at least start. This is not the case for SC2. Second, Blizzard’s customer support line only has an answering machine. No live service rep taking your call at all. It was a shame that Blizzard made a highly anticipated product, but failed to deliver it properly to many enthusiastic customers. Conclusion: try changing your battlenet password several times and see if that works for you.

Installed and updated everything. Graphics, sound and directx
Read and do the help things.
Go to play single player mission. It starts….

Go into Options, then Graphics, and set “Models” to Low.
Im running everthing else on Max. (that can be)
It has still crashed a couple of times but I have been able to complete most of the single player missions.

i didnt have one crash or anything after these steps
i followed the help above, and plug out my camera (logitech eyetoy for ps2). since then i had NO CRASH whatsoever. playing sc2 for 3 days already and these moves i made for game runing smoothly (at least for last 2 hours)
1. updated graphic drivers
2. install latest physix from nvidia site (it doesn’t matter if you have ATI card, like me, you need to install it)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.10.0224-driver.html
3. i’ve changed variables file. documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file and add these lines:
frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60
4. plugged camera out
i really lost a lot of nerves during these last few days with sc2 crashing all the time in the middle of the game! i was scared even to press f10 to see menu and press save/load, cause it freezes most commonly on these locations! i hope i have helped someone with my way of dealing with this annoying issue!
have fun

ok game still crashing after all :S epic
August 1st, 2010 at 11:53 am
So I suggest everybody that comes up with a problem to try changes in the variables.txt file…
For example, to fix my Black Screen problem I had to change the variables height and width… and so on…
Put firewall as well as AV (risky, but works) in game mode or disable it.

when installing from the dvd, it stops or hangs up at 1% then wont go any farther, tired 2 other discs had same problem
August 2nd, 2010 at 10:06 am
The game for me keeps crashing and when i run the repair tool it says repair files not found on server… I tried reinstalling the game 6 times, formatting hdds 2 times, and performing the fixes above. GFX card driver up-to-date, changed affinity so it uses core 1 and core 2 only. But still it crashes and doesnt allow me to fix it.

o yea running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. and it crashed when i am in an online game 2 minutes in , loading single player, and when just loading the game. Ran alot of different diagnostic for my system and everything is fine, no bad hardware…At this point i am about to call them and get my money back.
August 2nd, 2010 at 4:06 pm
The retail game sucks! I want my money back! The Beta was great!
I have learned a lesson: never buy a game before testing a pirated copy.
I get a very bad graphical glitches which I can describe as lights/flashes/lines
starting from the units.
It is very anoying.
My system is Pentium E2160 (Dual Core), ATI HD4650 (latest drivers: 10.7).
Other people with ATI cards are experiencing the same issue:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsaEd-dTAlQ
Strangely this problem was never present in any version of the game
during beta testing.
P.S.: My system is NOT overclocked and is NOT overheating
August 3rd, 2010 at 4:37 am
Same problem here, my computer freezes when installing SC2. The strange part is that i installed once, played single player until the terrazine mission, then it started reseting my comp when going into the next mission. I thought reinstalling might do the trick, but cannot……
My specs are Barton 3000+, nvidia 7600 GT, 2Gb dual DDR, and fat32 partition. No overheating, whatsoever!
August 3rd, 2010 at 1:54 pm
Valentin, your grafics card is not supported
sorry mate. Think your CPU is a a little under spec and you are running a fat32 partition. Hope you not joking tho
Got a problem, first couple multiplayer games I started (custom with friends) was fine, then the next few loads then as I get in the game it says I’ve lost WTF?!?! not disco’ing, all seems stable. Can join a random match up fine…just not start custom games. I can however join someone elses game
this blows

Problem
Blackscreen lockup requiring hard reboot whenever I tried to launch the game or the Map Editor.
Computer specs:
• Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit.
• Intel i7 860 running at stock speed of 2.8 Ghz
• C: drive is 300 GB WD Velociraptor with 225 GB free space
• 8 GB RAM
• Nvidia GTX 275 video card.
• EVGA P55 Motherboard
Solution
Since SC II can only use 2 cores, run MSCONFIG, click the Boot tab, click Advanced options…, check Number of processors:, and set the drop down box to a value of 2 or less. Just for grins I also unchecked the Debug checkbox, not sure if this has any effect whatsoever on this issue. Also, I’ve disabled HT in the BIOS, I have no idea whether or not this has any effect but I wouldn’t be surprised if it does.
I don’t know if this issue is limited to 64-bit Windows or not but is definitely a bug, SC II should be smart enough to ignore cores that it can’t use and not completely lock up my computer. Furthermore, if I want to run all of my cores for other stuff (I run VM’s for testing purposes) then I’ve got to go back into MSCONFIG, set the value for “Number of processors:” back to 4 and reboot.
Sooo, long story short… If you are running a multi core cpu with more than 2 cores you need use MSCONFIG to make the computer think that it is only running 2 cores. 64 bitness and HT may also be factors but I’ll leave that up to the Blizzard test team to worry about that….

For about 1 day everything was working fine on SC II.. but then it started crashing every time i tried to get into a game, didn’t matter what type of game, online, campaign, or AI, it always crashed almost as soon as i started the game. I was advised to uninstall the game then reinstall the game. So i uninstalled the game, and went to reinstall it, but at around 60% i got an error saying that a certain file could not be written.
i have no idea what to do, PLZ HALP
August 4th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
After a lengthy download, I finally have the game on my computer, which as of this afternoon, meets all the minimum requirements, though they are on the lower end I admit.
Pentium 4, 3.0ghz, 2.5gb ram, plenty of hard drive space, and running a new GeForce 8400 GS card.
I replaced the old video card because it is currently unsupported and probably not enough to handle the game anyway.
When I started the game with the old care, the computer would immediately restart.
When I started it with the new card, it stalled on the initial loading window and forced me to force shut down.
I installed the latest drivers and now it’s back to restarting from the “loading” screen.
I edited the variable.txt file with no noticeable change.
And during my attempt just now, I got a momentary flash of the blue screen and then the computer started to reboot.
Any ideas?
August 5th, 2010 at 9:31 am
add this to target on your starcraft 2 shortcut
-skipopenal -nocpubinding
in the end it looks like this
“D:\StarCraft II\StarCraft II.exe” -skipopenal -nocpubinding
when i added this, game stopped crashing. before you do it, you need to update drivers and install latest physix
August 5th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Not sure if that was direct at me Kule, but I tried it anyway. No luck. It still freezes on the initial screen where it says “Initializing Maps” then “Loading” and nothing happens. I can hear the computer going to work, all the fans kicking on, but it just stalls there.
I have the latest drivers and physix. : /
August 5th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
Also, it’s a travesty you can’t post on the SC2 tech support forums without creating an in game character first which is impossible if you have the issues so many people are dealing with. Ugh.
August 5th, 2010 at 10:37 pm
Blizzard is now suggesting power supplies might be the culprit if you have an nvida card. More new stuff to buy…
August 6th, 2010 at 6:06 am
this is from yahoo answers
“The problem is within Starcraft II itself. You have an ATI HD graphics card and Starcraft II does not play properly with it. This problem was reported multiple times in the Forums for the Beta (test) version of the game, for months on end, ever since version 6 of beta. Since they never fixed the problem, the final release version now has the same crashing issues on ATI graphics cards. You are not the only person having problems with this. Not only has it been reported countless times on forums by a multitude of players, I personally know 5 SC2 players, 3 of whom have ATI setups and can’t run the game for 10 minutes without crashing, and 2 with nVidia setups who have no problems. It’s not rocket science — the game is clearly the problem.
The workaround for now is to turn ALL of your detail settings to the lowest setting — it makes the game look like something out of 2001 but at least it will work.
Also, please send a complaint or post on the blizzard Forums about your problem, and make sure you mention you run an ATI HD graphics setup. Hopefully, if they get enough of these crash reports, they’ll finally acknowledge that there is in fact an issue, instead of flippantly dismissing your complaint (they like to blame dust, overheating, and software setup, while ignoring the fact that their game is the only one crashing my computer).”
i have ATI HD 3850 too, but i have no more problems after these steps i’ve told you to do
August 6th, 2010 at 7:32 pm
I don’t see anything about it crashing when trying to close Starcraft 2 Me and a numerous amount of friends have this problem it takes ages to close the game resulting in a crash and error report and having to ctrl alt del to get back to windows, for some it completely freezes their computer as long as freezing in the game randomly as well as the menu
And this is happening to people will who maintain their pc well with all of the above driver updates reg cleans etc
August 6th, 2010 at 7:34 pm
sorry i really don’t know where that ”long” and ‘will” grammar errors came from lol.
August 6th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
Was studdering badly when I fist installed. Getting setting to low stopped it. Putting models back to high would cause it again. I ended up going into ati overdrive and bumping the clock down a bit. This allowed me to get it going ultra again.
August 7th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
Solution (kind of) for problem #23
Did some testing and found my issue was because my calendar date was set back a couple years. I haven’t tested to see at what date bnet will accept and update your achieve’s and portraits but i know if your calendar date is set back a couple days or like a month, it will still update fine, but if you set it back a year or 2 it will not update. On a particular side note, i rarely ever lag my matches but on occasion i’ll get a “waiting for server” error message with only the option to surrender and my teammates tell me it shows me as lagging and i NEVER recover once i see that message, its a full disconnect every time. I don’t think the problem is related but i haven’t ruled it out yet.
August 8th, 2010 at 11:17 am
Ok… It installs perfectly, patches all the data, I open it up, log in… That’s when everything goes to hell. Can’t play again A.I. the modes don’t come up.
Try to start my campaign and it gets to about 85% -95% if I give it 15 minutes, then it all freezes up, can’t tab out, won’t go any further, audio track ends and doesn’t loop like its set too. Have to reboot forcefully.

Im running gtx 295 quad sli, a dedicated 9800 gt for physx and an i7 975. During cut scenes I get black artifacting on bulkheads, armors etc. They flash on and off, and the frame rate slows right down. When I disable sli, the game runs perfectly. The artifacting happens in cutscenes while the slowdown happens in campaign game but not quite as bad. I got my rig last november. Its brand new.I sent an email to Blizzard and got one back listing all the main points above. Not happy, they presume I havent done a lot of checking and just send me stuff thats on already been put uo on the net for all to see. Do they really think Im that dumb?? I thought Id get to talk to someone, you know, maybe a real person, remember them?? Im still at square one. Its their game, not my p.c. Waste of time sending an email for help. With this shit, Im getting fed up…. fast!
August 9th, 2010 at 7:51 am
@Patric
I’m also running a gtx 295 and receiving the same “EXACT” problems. I am trying to figure out where the problem lies. I’m starting to think it might be related to cuda and physX. I’ll get back to you if I find out what’s causing the gtx 295 to keep crash like this.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:36 am
The problem is not the game itself, it’s the nvidia drivers.
Update to the latest drivers (physX included), then go to the nvidia control panel, go to 3D settings and push the button to restore default values.
Figured this out when i realized the screensaver “orb” from the nvidia website crashed my PC exactly the same way as SC2.
August 18th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Got the mac version, 4 gigs of ram, 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo2, plenty of hard drive space, ATI Radeon 2400…gone through the install, launch the game get this message: “The launch of this game makes references to mod or map dependancies which are no longer available.”
I have re-installed, rebooted and no luck…. any help?

hey guys, i have starcraft 2 and it runs fine and everything except for one tinsie tiny problem..
every time i accidently hit the windows start button on the keyboard, *between ctrl & alt*, it will throw me out of the game and onto my main screen, but it will not close the program, it will just be minimized on the bottom bar.. should i try to rejoin the game, im met with am endless back screen. the program reportdly *does not respond* and I am forced to task manager end it..
it is extremly frustrating when im in a game on multiplayer, and i miss a key and suddenly im out, as it is by two fairly important keys..
anybody know a soloution to this problem?? thanks
August 20th, 2010 at 8:01 pm
I just received the patch (1.03) on 2 different computers (mine and my sons) and now the game is crashing……
Symptoms:
1. Game closes and disappears off the screen
2. Game freezes when loading the campaign.
This is really unbelievable. One PC is Windows 7 64bit and the other is 32bit. Both game systems were playing fine on version 1.02. what the #$#%%@#$%
Really frustrated and annoyed with this situation.
Better have your Q/A lab check it out.
Thanks,
Mike E and Trevor E

having weird problem for me too…..sometime during the gameplay….the game will sudden lock up….and i need to reboot the pc….any idea?
my ri Q6600, 4gb ram, 8800 GTX….using latest driver and close all background program….
August 22nd, 2010 at 1:55 pm
I cant find anyone with the same problem I’m having… I PLay the game for maybe 10 mins, then SC2 Locks up, for maybe 20 or 40 seconds, then jumps back into the game at full speed like nothing happened. It does the same thing on high graphic settings as it does the low. ATI HD Video card, That may be the problem. Even Single player locks up every few minutes, for a few seconds each time.
August 30th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
Updated everything, Computer screen goes black during movie sequences. Also choppy during cut scenes.
The rest of the game runs fine.
Running windows 7
Samsung I5 Q430 laptop
512 dedicated gforce 310
4 gigs of ram
2.5ghz processor
64 bit
Tried resolution change, updates, run as admin, add text to file in starcraft 2 file
Run with all low settings, everything but an reinstall.

I have a different FUBAR from what I’ve read. Random lockup, followed invariably by rapid sound looping (like a buzz of whatever sound), requires hard reboot (power-button hold). Cant tab out, ctrl-alt-del, nothing. I’ve so far updated driver, BIOS, cranked settings down, hardwired to internet, run as admin, opengl, framerate cap, realtime priority, run on 3-8 (some say less is better) processors, boot with no unnecessary background stuff, everything I can find. took the comp to Geek Squad who stress-tested and it aced it, no overheat.
Toshiba Satellite A505
Windows 7 Home 64-bit
i7 rated 3.6 GHz (8 CPUs)
nVidia 310M (latest driver)
4G DDR3 RAM
Help me, I’m yanking my hair out here. It worked great after I got it back, ran campaign, online over an hour, then started to freak out again.
