S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat PC Crash, Freeze, Launch Errors, DRM Issues, Won’t Load, Fix and Fixes

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, the sequel to Shadows of Chernobyl, once again brings players back to the Zone for another post-apocalyptic experience that gives Fallout 3 a run for its money. Unfortunately, crashes, freezes, and a number of other errors may cause some rage of apocalyptic proportions. So if you’re still stuck on the desktop figuring out how to get the video game to work, then check out the fix guide right after the jump and you might find the solution you need.
IMPORTANT:
- Update your nVidia and ATI video / Graphics cards to their latest drivers.
- If you have encountered problems or solutions not listed in this guide, feel free to post it in the comment section below. No registration required
- Be sure that your PC meets S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat system requirements:
Minimum System Requirements
- Intel Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz / AMD XP 2200+
- 512 MB RAM
- 128 MB DirectX 8.0 compatible card / nVIDIA GeForce 5700 / ATI Radeon 9600
Recommended System Requirements
- Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 / AMD 64 X2 5600+
- 2 GB RAM
- 512 MB DirectX 9.0c compatible card / nVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX / ATI Radeon HD 4850
Problem #1: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat (CoP) won’t launch / Crash / Freeze while launching
Possible Solution #1: (By wazooda from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. forums)
Ok… this is interesting. Now…. it seems that it is FRAPS that is causing CoP not to start. If I shut down FRAPS, I can load the game. If FRAPS is running, it does not start. In my previous installs, I was NOT running FRAPS…. so this seems unrelated… yet related. This is nuts overall… but at least it seems to be running now. In addition, I tabbed out, started FRAPS, and FRAPS works with the game running so it only seems to be a startup issue.
Possible Solution #2: (By Refan from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. forums)
This worked for me.

3 press the link on the left side reading = How do I remove SecuROM™ from my machine? =
4 download the Removal tool
5 remove securom
6 = Profit!

before you launch the game, eject the dvd. When prompted for it, insert and it runs!

had this same issue, click on the icon the DVD drive would spin up and even show the DVD pointer icon, but the game wouldn’t start.
Found that the game does not like XFire for some reason. Not sure if it has to do with STALKER’s copy protection scheme or what. If I shut down XFire, it starts every time.
Problem #2: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat encounters error message: Cannot find Fsgame.ltx
Possible Solution: #1 (By RoboMook from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. forums)
Try launching from the start-menu shortcut, might help.
Possible Solution #2: (By Einhanderkiller from the Gamespot forums)
Delete your user.ltx in
C:\Users\Public\Documents\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – Call of Pripyat
This will fix your problem.
Problem #3: Enemies and various NPCs don’t respawn when playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat
Possible Solution #1:
Download a no-cd crack file to bypass the DRM issue.
Problem #4: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat won’t launch after clicking the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. icon / .exe file
Possible Solution #1: (By RoboMook from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. forums)
There should be a shortcut under ‘games’ in the start menu. If it’s not there you’ll just have to create a new one by right-clicking on the .exe and choosing ‘pin to start menu’.

Nice one, sure this helps a lot of people. Still, a common error not mentioned and i think unsolved is the xrengine.exe errors. Know any possible solutions? i ve tried a lot of thinks and the engine crahes still there. thanks

Today I bought COP and was running it just fine the whole day (actually more like 3 hours) on Default settings just fine, I shut my computer off and got back on earlier to play and I get an error saying that my Video Card can’t handle the game and that I should lower the game settings, I’ve tried editing the fsgame.ltx file to lower the overall quality and tried every resolution possible but to no avail, this is

I got my copy from Steam. It started once then will not start again! I can get as far as the main menu and that’s it.

Crash on startup:
i kept getting crashes when i tried to run the game, but i FINALLY found a solution, and i hope this can help you too!:
step 1:
Go to shared/public (whatever its called)
Go to documents/stalker call of pripyat
Delete user.ltx
Step 2:
now you should be able to enter the game with some messed up options
Now go to options and put render type to enhanced full dyn. lightning (dx10) or whatever its called.
This made my game stop crashing, and you can always just change the settings if its lagging in the “advanced” tab.

Game only started one time. Will not start again. I do 3rd tier tech support for IBM so I know a lot about PC’s. I have tried everything mentioned here and else where and this game will not get past the main menu. I do not have a DVD as I got it from Steam. FRAPS is not installed. I need a fix to play this $50.00 rip off!!!!
I am very mad and have spent at least 4 hrs trying to make it work. I sue a 2 yr old Dell. Win 7. All other games work fine. Something about Xengine (I don’t have the message available to look at right now). Tried many graphics setting, nothing works. HELP!!!

Hi
This is the missing fix to the XR engine hang that i couldnt find anywhere, eventually found it on GSC in an OLD forum.
I tried the deleting savegames, deleting securom, startin from different icons, the whole bit. but this XR engine 1.6 just kept locking up.
then i foind this. If you have a soundblaster card and a 64 bit OS, you may not get the retail version to run. In fact you need to delete a couple of dll files and you will be in business.
the file is adi_oal.dll, and it exists in 2 places, c/windows/ system 32, and c/windows/syswow64.
Delete, and enjoy!

I’m having an issue where the game locks up within about 5 mins of play and I have to open task manager to shut the game down. An error message comes up saying the XR engine has stopped working. I’ve changed GFX settings to the DX10 option, I’ve tried disabling EAX and I’ve reinstalled. Any Ideas ?
So far all I’ve done is speak to the first stalker you see and help out the 2 stalkers in the furnace anomally (the one who gives you the bear detector) and then it crashes. Please help.
I’m running vista 64 Home basic, SLI 8800 GTX and have the all the latest drivers. I have not patched CoP but I dont think there is one yet for EU release.

I got a problem, Previously I installed the game and palyed perfectly to the end.(still I need to find the Oasis). So today When I tried to reinstal the game, it doesn’t start. Even after clicking the “setup” with “administrator” privillages nothing happening, a black window popups then gone. Then nothing is happening.
I am frustrated, please mention solution for this issue.
My specs
IntelXeon3065 2.33Ghz
2GB DDR2 800Mhz
8800GTX
W7x32 version(OEM).

Something weird happened to me: I was playing perfectly without problems in pripyat, after a mission in the X8 lab and the commander wanted to talk to me “in private”. I told him about some mercenaries and what they where going to do (find the X8 lab), and that we needed to stop them.
In the dialogue i pressed “1. OK” and then i couldn’t play anymore, the game doesn’t freeze in a picture, i just can’t move or press any buttons. All the sounds are still in the background and the commander in front of me is still looking at me and moving around, but I can’t move! This happens everytime i try to play it again!
The game works if i don’t get in the conversation with him, and just skip telling him about the mercs, but i don’t wanna
Anyone recognizes this problem? PLZ HELP

I bought the steam version and the entire game lags when i click start new game or esc to open the save game menu or anything and i watch other videos and it fine. I know its not performence cause my card+computer can more then handle it. I can play all the other stalkers fine except this one. Can anyone help me?

I found it very annoying that I cant play the game
Ive done almost everything there is to find on the forums,,
But the problem begins in the install already..
1. when im installing its says 3 times there is an error with the files, I can quit, ignore, try again.
- trying again does not work
- quit,, wel it works
- ignore and the insta continues.
2. when I press play it asks for cd, so I replace the icon with the crack.
3. I delete the stuff told als a solution in your documents etc..
4. the game keeps repating the same error with the X engine
please while I whas installing the game over and over I watched reviews, screenshots, movies, everything of this game
I wanna play it so bad !
Im running on a Vista,
im not so smart with pc’s but I do know 1 or more things of it

I just got CoP yesterday and have been encountering the exact same problem. i start up the game and after about 15 mins it freezes and shuts down on me. i encountered the same problem with Clear Sky and its getting really irritating. if anyone knows how to fix this please tell me.

Anyone find a real solution to the start issue yet? I have tried everything I can find on the message boards. I have no fraps or any of the programs mentioned and run the game from Steam. 32 bit OS of Win 7 only. I am so sick of trying to make this game run! have reinstalled 2 times. It has trouble creating and actual profile I think because whenever I go into my save games folder it’s not there. It dosen’t work for any kind of save, quicksave, autosave or normal save. Any help would be most welcome.

Hi,
Having the same problem as Chris, game started once for me, was a bit laggy so i backed out to tweak the graphics and settings, restarted the game and now anytime i try to start a new game it loads to full, then crashes with a xrengine error? Bought this game today after wanting it for awhile and pretty bummed that it doesn’t work.
Anyone have a fix? thanks.

Hey, I’ve had the problem of the .ltx files missing, First it asks for the fsgame.ltx then when I copy that file to the game bin and run it sayscannot find filec:\program files\bitcomposter games\stalker-call of pripyat\bin\gamedata\configs\system.ltx
reinstalling this application may fix this problem

I got the game on August 22, and have played it fine for 2 days with max graphics. Then out of nowhere the game crashes my computer with a 1033 blue screen, and after that the same crash when I try to load it. I thought I fixed it when the game loaded after minimizing the graphics, I played it far the rest of the day, and then I stopped playing, turned off my computer, and went to bed. The next day I tried to load it and it crashed my computer again the same way and now I can’t play it no mater what I do. If somebody knows what is going on, and knows how to fix it I’d be very thankful.
