The developers of the extremely realistic, incredibly immersive but deeply flawed tactical army simulation, ArmA 1, have released its follow-up, ArmA 2, an extremely realistic, incredibly immersive but deeply flawed sequel. And by “deeply flawed” I mean way more errors, glitches and crashes than what many other games usually have. So if you’ve got a game-breaking error that’s seriously dampening your fun then chances are, so does everyone else. Anyway, read on and you might find the fixes you need.

Problem #1:Game textures don’t load properly / texture lag
Solution #1: (By BlueSteel from the Bohemia Interactive forums)
Try setting video memory to the last setting (something that translates to “default”). In ArmA 1 that setting was specifically added for videocards with more than 512MB RAM (the only one back then was the 8800GTX with 768MB). It autodetects the video RAM and allows more of it to be used to store textures.
Before that option was added, cards with more than 512MB actually had incredibly bad texture lag. Houses 10m away would be extremely blurry until the texture finally loaded after half a minute or so…
Solution #2: (By Ohara, a Bohemia Interactive Developer)
Try run game with argument -maxmem=2048
Problem #2: Textures keep flickering
Solution #1: (By Thr0tt from the Bohemia Interactive forums)
Reduce Texutures to low, change AGP Aperture in BIOS to 512MB and see how you get on.
Solution #2: (By Suma, Bohemia Interactive Developer)
Try lowering your Texture detail or increasing the Texture memory settings as a workaround.
Problem #3: Game becomes unplayable after getting a black screen
Solution #1:
Download the latest nVidia driver, 186.18.
Download the latest ATI driver.
Problem #4: Slow Framerate for nVidia users
Solution #1: (By Dwarden from the Bohemia Interactive forums)
1.
NVIDIA videocard owners with newer cards and drivers supporting PhysX when disabling PhysX acceleration:
* this works mainly for 260 and newer GPU serie resulting into performance boost for NVIDIA users in ARMA 2 , yet some 9800/8800 users experiencing smoother gameplay
A. Control Panels > NVIDIA PhysX control panel > Settings > switch to NO PHysx acceleration ! > click on “OK”
B. Right click on desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Set Physx configuration > Select “Disabled” > Click on “Apply”
2a.
NVIDIA SLI owners shall try use NVIDIA beta SLI profile ARMA 2 support for 186.18:
http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/nvidi…_patch_uk.html
Anyone who install nVidia’s fix should deinstall/remove the EVGA fix before installing nVidia’s, if its previously installed!
2b.
NVIDIA SLI owners can gain additional performance by using EVGA SLI enhancer

3.
VISTA (64b) users may get way faster/smoother framerate in windowed mode with 186.18 drivers
4.
force VSYNC off in drivers
Problem #5: ArmA 2 crash, crashes to desktop / CTD

Ok if anyone has multicore processors turn off hyper threading in the bios this should almost definitly stop the crashes, especially on I7 processor. its the only thing that worked for me after trying “believe me” everything else

maxmem maximal value is 2047 anything beyond that is set back to 2047
also i suggest to try use 1023 to avoid crashing due to additional issues risen in OS

I found a funny way to stop freezing in my game now. Today after being tired of freezing after each 15 minutes of gameplay, I decided to crank up all video setting to high, all terrain, texture, object ect. All I think was its gonna freeze again anyway, might as well enjoy beautiful grapichs before it crash. To my surprise I was able to play the game for more than 1 hour, usually it won’t take more than 15minutes, I even manage to record it with FRAPS with no crash, freeze or such a thing. The worst thing that happend is my fps sometimes drop to 25 - 30 which is still pretty much playable for me. Perhaps some of you could try to crank up the grapichs., I don’t know the logic of how this work, but today I able to enjoy my game the way it should be enjoy.

Turning off Hyperthreading in BIOS also helped for me. I have an i7. But you have to lower graphic settings then:-(

I`ve just had a nasty thought come to my mind….
I hope Bohemia Interactive are not doing the same thing that Microsoft did with Microsoft Flight Simulator X……
I remember when Microsoft Flight Simulator X came out it was very slow and choppy even on the fastest machines, Everyone was waiting for a patch to come out to fix it….
Then Microsoft released Microsoft Acceleration Pack with Patch 2 included with it in the retail cd, then when Microsoft made enough sales with that, they only then released the Patch 2 for download on its own.
What I am now starting to think is…….
Maybe Bohemia Interactive are thinking along the same lines with Operation Arrowhead expansion Pack for Arma 2…..
I really hope not…..
But it does make sense.
Maybe I am just so frustrated with this program now, That I am beginning to think along these lines…..

i just found out -even with that error message- that one of my cpu cores is malfunctioning;
arma 2 works fine on my wifes computer, i tryed that RAM with the game on my pc also, so i know its not the memory, and my cpu failed the prime95 stresstest on the 2. core in 4 min. 3 times in a row.
i only got suspicious because after installing arma 2 again and trying to upgrade to 1.05 patch didnt work because of crc errors while entpacking the 1.05 update file which i downloaded 4 times in 3 different websides … always the same error while trying to upgrade…
and the computer worked normally all the time before
was a hard to find hardware problem …
system is/was
intel e8400 dualcore 3,0ghz, 4 gb ram, 8800gtx - my wifes works find with 8800gts also -
so my advice is if nothing else worked, try stresstests and memorytests to make shure the hardware is ok
google for prime95 stresstest, easy to find
