The Prowess of a PC gamer: Was the PC meant to play games?
Written by Asaki VidelDont you just wish that PC games wont have extra price tags everytime you buy em? I’m sure you know what I mean… yesterday you bought FarCry 2 and thought your PC was the powerhouse of the century… seconds later, GTA4 tells you that you cant even run the game on low settings. This is probably the PC Gamer’s worst nightmare. You’ll burn your credit card in the process that I assure you.
Aside from losing tons of money, you’ll often find yourself smothering your ass with bugs that would probably be addressed weeks after you’ve purchased the game. Lets face it, the PC isnt noob friendly…
Console gaming: Insert Disk, Download update (*Optional), pick up controller, play online (*Optional), Enjoy
PC Gaming ver 1: Insert disk/Download copy(*Optional),Install, type CD-key, Check stock for controller if recommended, get mouse and keyboard, enjoy
PC Gaming ver 2: Insert disk/Download copy (*Optional), Install, Type in CD-key (If problem persists, go to tech support), Problem (Wait for a patch), PC having a hard time ( update your driver), PC wasnt strong enough (Buy more buffs for your PC), tweak settings to optimize gameplay, pick up keyboard and mouse (Adjust the sensitivity to suit your playstyle), Enjoy???
yeah… thats a lot of fun. Dont get me wrong though, I still think that PC games rock. its just that sometimes i wish that PC games arent that demanding… if only games would have the same meta requirements.

You know, we’ve actually gotten a lot of progress since the arrival of DirectX. I’m sure you still remember the days of configuring sound cards, mice, and other drivers.

I agree that sometimes PCs can be a little frustrating due to the inconsistent nature of current technological standards. And sometimes it’s not even that you don’t have the best rig. If you’re careful you can put together a decent rig that won’t hurt your wallet too much, but just the other day I purchased a copy of company of heroes that kept hanging at odd times int he middle of an install. Turns out that certain games don’t play nice with combo drives. Hellgate:London also has this problem, and it can get really frustrating knowing that there’s nothing wrong with your equipment per se, there’s jsut a stupid incompatibility probem.
The datablitz tech guy ended up going to my house, attachign his SATA drive to my PC, then copying the files over to my hard drive. I’m glad datablitz has such dedicated tech support, but really, it shouldn’t be that hard to play a game.

Whoah. points for datablitz then.
Some new PC games hurt, since most of em run better on beta drivers.. Thats like adding 3rd party chicks in porn making it an orgy LAWL. makes it better, but still aint the same.
One lesson I’ve learned so far: Never trust the game’s system requirements. its technically 30% wrong…TT__TT

+ points to neither
One of the reason why a console’s gaming lifespan is longer than PCs is because console game devs are forced to make do with what available processing power the current gen consoles can provide. A lot of PC Game developers are more than eager to test out new technologies at the expense of gamers with low-end machines.
+ points to console
Regarding the bugs : Development-wise, Console games are a lot easier to test than PC games. There’s just too much variety of hardware mix on the PC… 32bit/64-bit procs… ATI/Nvidia cards… cell shaders etc.
my Bias towards the PC (not necessarily + points)
Keyboard, Mouse…. I play a lot of RTS, and i cant imagine playing an RTS on a console. Starcraft 2, Diablo 3 <3
cant expound more on this, boss is lurking around… cant concentrate on commenting :<

games on console are garbage compared to pc gaming. There is a ton of genres that don’t even work on consoles. pc gaming is cutting edge gaming. While you play normal fighting games I am playing a much more adanced fighting game. When your playing rehased game play I am playing fresh new gners. while your console companies go bankuprt. My pc companies are making real cash.
your console is nothing more than trash, a fake gaming machine that cannot compete with the real thing.
